PORTO ROTONDO WATCHES

PORTO ROTONDO – PASSION FOR SIMPLICITY

Scalfaro’s Porto Rotondo line of timepieces was named after the Sardinian harbour of PORTO ROTONDO – celebrated for its atmosphere of simple elegance and Mediterranean spirit.

ART DECO

This line has an essentially classical presence and is strongly influenced by the Kuhnle brothers’ fascination with the Art Deco period in architecture and decorative arts including some of their favourite artists like Tamara de Lempicka and Francis Picabia. The Art Deco period united functionality and clear design with technical innovation and manufacturing excellence.

True to these roots PORTO ROTONDO stands out by its elegant simplicity, symmetrical, well-balanced design composition and obvious sophistication in details, such as its multi-level dial and case construction, various surface-finishing techniques in dial and case design, the compulsory ScalfaScrews (this time used to secure the dial on the movement) as well as its large bezel-opening.

TECHNICAL PERFECTION AND CLEAR LINES

The PORTO ROTONDO’s highly complex and luxuriously finished watch cases demonstrate the independent character of these timepieces in an impressive way. Manufactured with the help of high-tech machinery, controlled and ultimately polished by hand, the numerous single components of each case are finally put together to result in a masterpiece of modern engineering.

Unique shape, sophisticated facets, refined finishing, important weight and complexity of construction result in the characteristic, high-profile appearance of a SCALFARO timepiece.

The PORTO ROTONDO’s clear and purist design is complemented by the perfect polishing of the various surfaces and the resulting interplay of matt and shiny surfaces. In combination with the numerous facets of the case create a spectacular effect similar to the sparkle of a diamond.

PORTO ROTONDO not only demonstrates its sporty, and at the same time sophisticated character in design, construction and quality, but also in its flawless technical features: multi-level case architecture, anti-reflective sapphire crystal, meticulously finished Swiss mechanical movement, screw-down crown, fluorescent hands, transparent sapphire crystal case back, ScalfaScrews, water-resistance to 50m/165ft, case diameter 44.0mm (1.73in), multi-level dial incl. bezel with ScalfaScrews, facet-oriented design with interplay of matt and shiny surfaces…

SCALFARO RETROMOON CALIBRE

DESCRIPTION OF THE SCALFARO CALIBRE ADK 152 RETROMOON

SCALFARO RETROMOON – WATCHMAKING ARTISTRY AT ITS FINEST

At SCALFARO, we are very proud that – after years of development – we are finally launching our exclusive in-house complication and enriching the world of watchmaking with a fresh complication!

Inspired by the world of yachting with its dynamic shapes, navigational instruments and nautical dashboards, the founders of SCALFARO came up with the idea of a unique dial layout and set of functions. It took the brothers two years of intense research and development to come up with their striking new calibre – the ADK 152:

The central functions of the timepiece (hour and minute hand) have been pushed towards the six o’clock position to shift the point of gravity on the dial – just like the engine draws the attention to the rear of a powerboat.

The seconds are displayed in a spectacular way incorporating the innovative technique of retrograde indication and resembling the layout of classic yachting instruments (tachymeter): the second hand describes 60 seconds via a movement of 210 degrees after which it jumps back to zero.

Timepieces demand for precise indication of the current time incl. the exact second – just like race drivers demand for clear readability of their instruments. Therefore the ADK 152 indicates the full 60 seconds with its retrograde mechanism (210 degree movement of the second hand equals 60 seconds).

The display of the current date is part of the functions of every Scalfaro timepiece. The freshly developed ADK 152 shows the date under an integrated loupe – designed like a porthole – at the 6 o’clock position.

The new complication is completed by its elegant moon phase indication at the 12 o’clock position decorated with the Southern Cross constellation – a constellation that has served maritime explorers and adventurers for centuries as navigational aid.

One of the hidden treasures of this new calibre and an innovation in the field of wristwatches is its spare parts pocket containing the main replacement parts for the retrograde mechanism and being fully integrated into the movement construction. This is a truly useful feature giving the watchmaker a first aid kit for emergency repairs and having found its way from watchmaking history into the ADK 152 (in former times pocket watches used to have small spare parts compartments).

True to SCALFARO’s philosophy of combining traditional workmanship with state of the art technology, the ADK 152 is the first movement to combine two major innovations within the automatic winding mechanism: SCALFARO’s skeleton tungsten rotor and SCALFARO’s ceramic ball-bearing system. The results are impressive: significant reduction of friction, greater power reserve and longer service intervals.

The first model to showcase SCALFARO’s new complication is the PORTO ROTONDO line of timepieces.

Main technical features and innovations of the ADK 152:

– Decentralized hour and minute hands

– Decentralized retrograde second indication (60 seconds)

– Moon phase display decorated with Southern Cross constellation

– Magnified date display with integrated loupe

– Spare-parts pocket fully integrated into movement construction

– Skeleton tungsten rotor

– Friction-reduced ceramic ball bearing system
